All the refinement of natural stone included in a marble with an intense grey background, crossed by thin white veins.
Type: MARBLE
Finishes: POLISHED, HONED, BRUSHED, SANDED
Colour: GREY, TORTORA
The Pietra Grey marble comes from the mountains of central Iran: the extraction area is located in the region around Isfahan.
Depending on the quarry, the base colour of Pietra Grey can vary from tawny to anthracite. However, the constant is represented by the thin white streaks that give brightness and movement to the entire surface.
The Pietra Grey marble can be catalogued, on the basis of its petrographic characteristics, as a compact calcareous lithotype, a sedimentary rock composed mainly of calcium carbonate that forms when the limestone is subjected to extreme heat and pressure.
The Pietra Grey is characterised by a fine grain and a homogeneous structure.
It is an extraordinarily versatile stone, ideal for a wide range of applications in both the construction and design sectors. Thanks to its technical characteristics and the variety of finishes available, this stone is perfectly suited for use in both indoor and outdoor contexts.
The main technical characteristics of Pietra Grey marble are:
STANDARD | U.M. | VAL. MEDIUM
Density | g/cm2 | 27 | ||
Apparent porosity | % | 0,3
Flexural strength | KG/cm2 | 842
Frost resistance | % | 0,25
Resistance to friction | % | 25
Modulus of rupture | % | 23 |
It is a sturdy and durable stone, which demonstrates good resistance to treading and daily wear, making it suitable and widely used in high traffic areas.
The good technical characteristics such as compressive strength and durability make Pietra Grey a material suitable for floors, wall tiles, but also kitchen worktops.
In particular, Pietra Grey is a marble that we often find used in the following uses:
Proper care and maintenance, including regular cleaning, will help to preserve its beauty and ensure its longevity.
Pietra Grey gives a modern and contemporary touch to the rooms, being ideal for use in contexts with current design. To fully enhance the aesthetic qualities, the most suitable finishes are those polished, honed and brushed.
However, thanks to the versatility of the material, Pietra Grey can also be used in more classic or traditional environments. Processing techniques such as burring or sanding, in fact, allow to obtain surfaces with anti-slip properties.
The name “Pietra Grey” is often associated with artificial products such as ceramics and stoneware, which reproduce its visual effect but have nothing in common with the technical and aesthetic characteristics of the natural stone from which they take their name.
On the technical side, artificial products have very strict limits in terms of slab thickness and applicable finishes.
On the aesthetic front, the uniformity and standardization typical of products such as stoneware and ceramics make the characteristics of uniqueness and variability that distinguish natural stone disappear.
The main differences between the artificial products and the original Pietra Grey are:
ARTIFICIAL PRODUCT | ORIGINAL PIETRA GREY |
Possible thicknesses 6 or 12 mm | Any thickness achievable |
Limited surfaces available | Multiple finishes possible |
Standardised format and structure | Uniqueness of each slab |
Uniform background colour without shades | Variable background colour with natural shades |
